Exploiting the sensitivity of IRAM NOrthern Extended Millimeter Array (NOEMA) and its ability to process large instantaneous bandwidths, we have studied morphology other properties molecular gas dust in star forming galaxy, H-ATLAS J131611.5+281219 (HerBS-89a), at z = 2.95. Chandra Observations of the X-ray Luminous Star-forming Galaxy Merger Arp 299

We report results of a Chandra observation of the X-ray luminous star-forming galaxy Arp299 (NGC3690/IC694). We detect 18 discrete X-ray sources with luminosities above ∼ 10 39 erg s −1 (0.5-8.0 keV band), which contribute ∼ 40% of the total galactic emission in this band. The remaining emission is associated with a diffuse component spatially coincident with regions of widespread star-formatio...

The X-ray Properties of the Nearby Star-forming Galaxy Ic 342: the Xmm-newton View

We present results on the X-ray properties of IC 342 using a 10 ks XMM-Newton observation. Thirty-five sources are detected coincident with the disk of IC 342 (more than tripling the number known), of which ≈ 31 are likely to be intrinsic to IC 342. This point-source population exhibits a diverse range of spectral properties and has an X-ray luminosity function slope and infrared luminosity com...

The magnetic field in luminous star-forming galaxies

An ongoing search for Zeeman splitting in the 1667 MHz OH megamaser emission from luminous star-forming galaxies has yielded numerous detections. These results, in addition to being the first extragalactic measurement of the Zeeman effect in an emission line, suggest that OH megamasers are excellent extragalactic magnetometers. We review the progress of our survey and discuss future observations.

A Search for Molecular Gas toward a BzK - selected Star - forming Galaxy at z = 2 . 044

We present a search for CO (3–2) emission in SDF-26821, a BzK-selected star-forming galaxy (sBzK) at z = 2.044, using the 45-m telescope of the Nobeyama Radio Observatory and the Nobeyama Millimeter Array. We do not detect significant emission and derive 2 σ limits: the CO luminosity of LCO < 3.1× 10 10 K km s pc, the ratio of far-infrared luminosity to CO luminosity of LFIR/LCO > 57 L⊙ (K km s...
